BLOOMINGTON – Tuesday night at Bloomington High School South more than 500 students in grades 5-12 represented the Strings Program. Groups include Elementary Beginning Strings, Elementary Continuing Strings, combined middle school orchestras, Hoosier Youth Philharmonic who are the Bloomington High School North and Bloomington High School South orchestras.
During the Strings program, Tuesday night Mr. Jon Hansen, Strings teacher at Bloomington High School South was honored as the “American String Teachers Association 2021-22 High School Orchestra Teacher of the Year”.
The American String Teachers Association (ASTA) is a national organization of string teachers that provides resources for teachers, advocates for public school orchestral music, creates performing opportunities for school students, and recognizes great teaching. It is the largest organization in the U.S. for string teachers and there is only one recipient in the state of Indiana for this annual award.
Hansen will be honored and recognized at the upcoming Indiana Music Teachers’ convention in Fort Wayne this weekend. Hansen is currently the Director of Orchestras in Monroe County Community School Corporation and the director of The Hoosier Youth Philharmonic.
