BEDFORD – During a special meeting of the Bedford Redevelopment Commission Wednesday, the Commission approved a resolution to expand the Economic Development area for the proposed construction of the Bedford Police Department. This expansion will also include Beech Street.
On December 22, 2021, the Commission approved a resolution to purchase the old Aldi building on 16th for $825,000 along with a $20,000 deposit.
The purchase for the property is contingent on an appraisal, inspection and survey, and if there are any issues the sale can be denied by the Commission within 60 days.
The new location will give the police department 13,000 square feet that will be utilized for training, and safer way to transport prisoners in and out of the police station.
This will also include the area around Beech Street with the location of the jail and the property owned by Steve Evans. The Bedford Plan Commission moved that proposal forward to a public hearing in February.
