On Track: I-69 Finish Line Project Update

INDIANA – The first weekend of the I-465 eastbound closure went smoothly, with traffic adapting to the changes and moving well through the detour corridor.

This week will be the first real test, and we anticipate some congestion at the closure points and on the detour route during morning and evening rush hours. Please be aware of changing traffic conditions on your commute this week – everyone is adjusting.

Now would be a good time to download the INDOT TrafficWise app to your smartphone so you can check travel speeds and view traffic cameras before heading out.

Click here for more information about directional closures on I-465 Below are some additional closures, further south on the corridor:

A new temporary ramp from southbound S.R. 37 to Southport Road opened last night, and with it, the removal of access to S.R. 37 from Banta Road. The signal at Banta Road has been deactivated and will be removed this week.  Barricades barring access to S.R. 37 from Banta Road are now in place.

Waverly Park Road south of Huggin Hollow Road is closed to traffic for the next three weeks for road reconstruction. Motorists will follow Huggin Hollow to Waverly Park Road to access S.R. 144, while commercial truck traffic will use Waverly Park Road south to Waverly Road to Whiteland Road to C.R. 144.

The actual closure ends approximately 200 feet south of the north Huggin Hollow intersection.  Local businesses can be accessed from the south on Waverly Park Road.

Westbound I-465 is open to traffic, and we encourage all motorists to follow the posted speed limits and keep their eyes on the roadway. Please don’t get distracted by the construction activity in the eastbound lanes. Westbound lanes will close to traffic between I-65 and I-70 in July.

While the closure of eastbound I-465 may eliminate general traffic noise, it is likely to be replaced by construction noise. Crews will be working around the clock for the next couple of weeks, and homes and businesses adjacent to the highway might experience construction-related noise into the evening hours. We thank you in advance for your patience.

I-69

Mullinix Road east of S.R. 37 is still closed between Smith Valley Road and Olive Branch Road. The roundabout construction is expected to be complete in late July/early August in time for school openings.

The roundabout on S.R. 144 west of the I-69 interchange is expected to open mid-week, including the removal of the traffic signal at Waverly Park Road/Old S.R. 37.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
