Stars fight through ill wind for 5-0 win over North Daviess

BNL’s Becca Epping posted a win at No.1 singles as the Stars swept North Daviess on Friday.

ELNORA – Bedford North Lawrence cut through a stiff wind for a 5-0 victory over North Daviess during girls high school tennis action on a blustery Friday.

The Stars (1-1 in dual matches) overcame the challenge of the elements for their first dual-match team triumph of the season.

“Never have we ever played in this kind of wind,” BNL coach Joni Stigall said. “We weren’t even really playing an opponent today, we were playing against the wind the best we could.  Balls changed direction, would head out and then land in. I’m proud of our girls for handling it well. It’s hard to critique any play today, we just did what we had to do to win points.”

In singles, Becca Epping survived a third-set super tiebreaker for a 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 win over Amaya McBride at No.1. Ava McKinney made her first start at No.2 and posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Macy Anderson, and Nadia Anderson remained unbeaten this season (4-0) with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Emma Taylor.

In doubles, Kenley Craig and Izzy Alldredge rolled past Gracelyn Byrer and Chloe Saladin at No.1, while new tandem Jessie Faubion and Meryl Klein conquered Lexi Tolbert and Jayden Morris 6-1, 6-3 at No.2.

BNL will visit Linton on Monday.
