Police looking for fugitive find drugs instead, woman detained

BEDFORD – A Bedford woman faces drug charges after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Chris Griggs responded to a house on Friday in the 200 block of Perry Street to locate a wanted fugitive Brady Sullivan.

When Deputy Griggs arrived at 9:19 p.m., he found two males outside the home. One of the males said he was there to check on 30-year-old Haley Lee because the home did not have power or water. The man said Lee was inside the house.

After knocking on the door for over 30 minutes, Lee exited the home.

Capt. Lonnie Johnson spoke to Lee about Sullivan’s location. She stated he was not there and would not allow officers to search the house.

Officers applied for a search warrant, which was granted at 10:51 p.m.

Sergeant Pope, Officers Tillett, Trueblood, Carter, and a Jackson County K-9 officer searched the home.

During the search, Deputy Tillett found a plate of crystal meth. In a bedroom, police found a plastic baggy that contained marijuana and another plate of crystal meth. Two prescription drugs that Lee did not have a prescription for were also found.

Lee told police she lived in the house alone and had not seen Sullivan. However, one of the males at the scene told police Sullivan had been at the home but didn’t know if he ran when he spotted the officers or if he was hiding inside.

Police noted that while waiting for the search warrant, they heard a loud noise inside the home.

The officers checked the attic area for Sullivan but could not locate him.

Lee was arrested on charges of possession of meth, possession of a legend drug, possession of marijuana, and maintaining a common nuisance.
