Two men were rescued by firefighters from White River south of Waverly.

MORGAN CO — Firefighters rescued two men Tuesday afternoon from the White River south of Waverly.

Mike Pruitt, the deputy fire chief at the Bargersville Fire Department, said two individuals who were kayaking on the White River required assistance after encountering a log jam that caused their kayaks to become overturned.

The kayakers were not injured during the incident and managed to bring themselves to safety on a nearby sandbar, where they waited for firefighters and several other agencies to arrive via boat. The men were rescued around 4:16 p.m. Tuesday.

“The river has been in flood stage for several days, creating unacceptable recreational activity conditions. The boys are very lucky to be alive,” said Chief Pruitt.

The Morgan County Water Rescue Task Force and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources also assisted with the rescue.
