BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence will compete in a new Class 4A football sectional after the IHSAA announced the assignments for six sports on Tuesday.

The Stars will now face Charlestown, Connersville, Greenwood, Jennings County, Martinsville, Shelbyville and Silver Creek in 4A Sectional 23 for the next two years. BNL was shifted to face teams from the Evansville area during the regular season last year, but it is now back in a similar grouping to 2022.

“As with any sectional, it’s going to be competitive,” BNL football coach Derrick Barker said. “We will see a couple of teams during the season, and we are scrimmaging Greenwood this summer, so there is the potential for some familiarity. But expect a lot of change come October.”

BNL remained unchanged in boys and girls basketball, although the sectional groupings have changed.

In boys basketball, the Stars are still in 4A Sectional 15 with Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, New Albany, Seymour and Scottsburg (a two-year addition because of the success factor rule). In girls basketball, BNL will now be in a five-team sectional with Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, New Albany and Seymour.

In volleyball, BNL will now face Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, New Albany, Seymour and Providence (a two-year addition because of success factor).

BNL will compete with Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, Jennings County, New Albany and Seymour in Class 3A boys soccer. In girls soccer, the Stars will face Bloomington South, Bloomington North, Martinsville, Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South in 3A.

Sectional assignments for baseball and softball will be announced in August.
