Lawrence County Young Republicans amend their bylaws

On Monday, April 29th, Chairman Courtnee Johnson, Vice Chairman Chase Cummings, and Treasurer Leyton Craig met for dinner to discuss the future of the Lawrence County Young Republicans for the 2024 election season.

During the meeting, the group made amendments and edits to their bylaws.

Article 10 of the bylaws states the following:

“Neither the Young Republicans nor the Executive Board, shall in any way endorse the candidacy of any Republican candidate prior to the Primary Election unless said Republican candidate is a filed candidate for office or said Republican candidate is a parent, spouse, sibling, or family member of the applicable Active Member, at which time they can individually endorse said Republican candidate, but not on behalf of the Young Republicans.”

Article 10 of the Lawrence County Young Republican bylaws has been removed as of Monday, April 29th.

Those attending the meeting also amended the remaining bylaws regarding state interference and membership dues and expanded a bylaw to allow members under the age of 18 to join the group.

The group also discussed the beginning stages of planning a summer Jeep ride event that would serve as a fundraiser for the group. Once the planning of this event is finalized, you’ll find it first here on wbiw.com.

The group discussed their plans for the future. Founder and Vice Chairman Chase Cummings shared “Within the next five years, I would like to see this group expand, get more involved, and get more members into the Lawrence County Young Republicans, to the point that we can kind of go back to our mission statement of Recruit, Train, and Elect, so that we can recruit members, train them on how to be good Republicans, and be in good standing with the Lawrence County Republican Party, and then get them elected to a local position on the local level. Whether that be advisory board, whether that be trustee, whether that be County Council, or any office in the courthouse. But it’s important to get younger people elected into office.”
