Investigation underway following Anderson shooting

ANDERSON – Saturday evening, the Indiana State Police began an investigation into a shooting that occurred at an Anderson residence that sent one victim to an Indianapolis Hospital for treatment.

At approximately 7:31 p.m., on Saturday, June 15th, Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators from the Indiana State Police Pendleton District were requested by the Anderson Police Department to respond to an address on Delmar Street after receiving a report that a male had been shot at the residence.

Officers arrived and located a 44-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.  The victim was transported to Indiana University St. Vincent’s in Anderson before being flown to Indiana University St. Vincent in Indianapolis in critical condition.

The investigation by Indiana State Police Detectives has determined that an altercation at the residence led to the victim being shot.  The investigation is still ongoing, and additional leads need to be pursued.

Nicholas Blake Simmons, 24, of Anderson, was arrested and preliminarily charged with invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor and unlawfully carrying a firearm, a Class A misdemeanor.

Simmons’ charges resulted from him violating a protection order set in place before yesterday evening’s incident.

The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Anderson Police Department and Anderson Fire/EMS.
