Bedford motorcyclist seriously injured in crash

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on Tuesday, June 14, at the intersection of John Williams Boulevard and X Street. 

Bedford Police officers and first responder rushed to the scene at 5:13 p.m. 

According to Bedford Police Officer Jarrett Tedrow, 81-year-old Vernon Gould, of Bedford, was driving a white Toyota Sienna and turning left from the eastbound lane of John Williams Boulevard onto X Street.

At the same time, 24-year-old Jaden Hawkins of Bedford was traveling west on John Williams Boulevard on his black Harley Davidson Iron 883.

Officer Tedrow says Gould failed to yield the right of way when turning in front of Hawkins’ motorcycle. 

Hawkins was thrown from the motorcycle. He suffered substantial injuries, including but not limited to a broken neck, broken left arm, broken left and right femur, broken left tibia, a punctured lung, and lacerations to his eye and chin.

He was transported by ambulance to IU Health Bedford Hospital and then flown by air ambulance to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital for treatment.

Gould was not injured. Due to the seriousness of the accident, Gould did submit to a blood draw a IU Health Bedford Hospital. Those results are pending.

Damages were estimated between $25,001 and $50,000.
