Lavender a plenty at Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market

BLOOMINGTON — Travis Dekoker, “The Lavender Man” of Lavender Valley Farm, is a veteran vendor who began vending at the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market in 2012.

Lavender Valley Farm

After a brief hiatus, he returned for a few weeks to sell a limited supply of his lavender plants.

Travis once shared that he used to work in a clock shop before figuring out that he needed to do something with his family’s farm that was sitting idle. He decided on lavenders because they are very self-sufficient. He explained that there is no need to water or fertilize them, and the lavender acts as its pest-repellent), because it is unique.

Come out this Saturday and purchase a bundle of lavender while supplies last.

Lavender

People usually associate lavender with two specific traits: its fragrance and its color. But you may not know that the lavender flower and the oil derived from it have long histories in herbal medicine.

Peaches

A variety of vendors have begun to bring peaches to the Market. For optimal flavor, buy peaches from your local farmers’ market during the peak season (June-August) when they are tree-ripened.

Music at the Market

Saturday’s entertainment line-up features two sensational performers.

Caleb Ely

Caleb Ely of Ronin Music will lead off Saturday’s double-header of entertainment.

Caleb is a solo performer but plays with “53 Thieves,” a musical group that features an electronic-oriented blend of hip-hop, R&B, and disco.

His set begins at 8:30 a.m. on the Circular Stage.

Derrick and Olivia follow at 10:45 a.m.

Derrick and Olivia

They are local to Bloomington and began performing together in their seventh-grade show choir at Edgewood Junior High School, which continued throughout high school.

They officially started their duo act in 2020 as sophomores.

Mayor’s Team at the Table

This community outreach program invites Market-goers to engage with the mayor and various department heads from the City of Bloomington government.

Director of Housing and Neighborhood Development (H.A.N.D.), Anna Killion-Hanson
