(BLOOMINGTON) - The newborn baby found at Bloomington’s Prompt-Care Clinic over the weekend has been placed in a foster home, after being released from Bloomington Hospital.
Monroe County Department of Child Services Director Lindsay Smith says he's received numerous calls and emails about adopting the baby. But before a family can adopt several legal steps must be taken, including a judge terminating rights of the mother and then determining which prospective family should have the baby. Smith says this could be done in less than two months.
Although the mother did not meet strict requirements of the Safe Haven Law, police say they won't file charges if her identity is discovered.
