(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man has been charged with defrauding the federal government in the wake of hurricane Katrina.
Federal prosecutors say Alan King took nearly $44,000 after convincing officials he and his family owned two homes in New Orleans and one in Biloxi, Mississippi when the storm hit.
King has pleaded guilty to several fraud counts and a charge of false use of social security numbers and could spend as much as 50 years in jail. He could also be fined up to one-million dollars.
