(BEDFORD) - Work has picked up on refurbishing the Williams Covered Bridge.
Mike Keeven with DLZ architectural/engineering firm of Indianapolis is overseeing the progress of project. Keeven says that the project had to be resubmitted to the state because of delays. Keeven also noted that environmental concerns with mussels found in the riverbed have slowed the project. Lawrence County Commissioners say the project has cost over $1.5-million over budget because of the slow down.
Keeven also told the commissioners that if all goes as planned, construction of the history bridge will begin in the spring of 2008. Plans are to make the bridge a foot bridge and a park is planned to be built around the century old structure.
