(UNDATED) - Jailers in Monroe County say a man was released from the Henry County Jail due to forged release paperwork.
Jared Bailey left a prison in New Castle last weekend after a woman walked into the jail and walked out with the detainee himself. The women was purporting to be a Marion County corrections official, complete with a badge and paperwork seeking Bailey's release.
Monroe County Jail records show one of Bailey's friends faxed paperwork seeking the man's release from the Bloomington prison when Bailey was locked up there in September of 2005. However, jailers were clever enough to check the authenticity of those documents before they let Bailey go and eventually determined they were fake.
