(COLUMBUS) - Bartholomew County sheriff’s officials have released information about the mobile meth lab which forced the closing of a school this morning.
Officers stopped 40-year old George more of Columbus in the parking lot of Cross Cliff Elementary School because his license plate sticker was expired. Lieutenant Ron Kittle says officers found a small amount of methamphetamine in Moore's vehicle and were surprised when a second car pulled in behind Moore's.
Driving that car was an acquaintance of Moore's, 42-year old Katherine Smith of Columbus. When officers interviewed smith, they found inconsistencies in her story, searched her car and discovered a rolling meth lab.
Because of the proximity to the school, administrators decided to keep students home for the day as the state police meth cleanup team disposed of the harmful chemicals used to make the powerful drug. Three other schools in the area had their openings delayed because of the incident.
Both Moore and Smith face several drug charges.
