(BLOOMINGTON) - Funeral services were held for Purdue freshman Wade Steffey in Bloomington Monday.
The Bloomington native's body was discovered in a high voltage utility closet on the Purdue campus last week. Steffey had been missing since mid-January.
Services were held at Bloomington's Evangelical Community Church. The group of mourners gathered included large numbers of Wade Steffey's 18 and 19-year-old peers, reunited for the occasion from colleges all over the country.
Steffey's father Dale says the family hopes to establish a Wade Steffey endowment, with the money going to scholarships and police training initiatives. He also says the family will be planting trees in Wade's memory. Wade Steffey's body will lie in Clear Creek Cemetery. More than $30,000 has already been donated to the Wade Steffey Memorial Fund.
