Police say 38-year-old Anne Smale was fatigued and fell asleep momentarily. Her auto left the roadway, traveled up an embankment and struck a caution sign. The vehicle then hit a guardrail, traveling along the length of the rail about 70 feet. Two wheels of the car ended up on the guardrail.
The vehicle then dropped off the guardrail and traveled down over another embankment. The car then rolled over and became lodged at the bottom of the embankment.
Smale had to be extricated by the Bedford Fire Department Extrication team. She was taken to the Bedford Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
According to police, a boxer dog was also in the auto and suffered some bleeding to his mouth.
