(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Public Library will begin a major renovation project in just a few weeks.
Tri-County Builders was awarded the contract with their low bid of $1,039,000. An additional $39,700 was given to them to construct outside piping to the 103-year-old building.
Library Director Susan Miller says the biggest part of the construction will be a new heating and cooling system. Miller says parking will be improved as well. The parking lot will be handicapped accessible with a new entrance.
Other parts of the project include updating the 25-year-old elevator to meet current handicap and elevator codes, replacing single glass windows with insulated glass, replacing deteriorating sidewalks and creating a new drive-up book drop. Tri-County Builders say it should take about 8 months to complete the upgrades.
