(BLOOMINGTON) - The Indiana University School of Law has announced an internal investigation into whether a faculty member improperly used university resources for his own law practice. accused
The investigation of Professor Alex Tanford comes in response to allegations made by Tanford's legal opponents. Tanford has spent much of the last 9 years pursuing litigation on behalf of small wineries to overcome state statutes that prevent them from shipping their product directly to customers, rather than through wholesalers.
Jim Purucker, Executive Director of Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Indiana has opposed Tanford's efforts in court.
Tanford says Purucker has concocted allegations of impropriety against him in order to defend the interests of the wine wholesaling business.
Purucker says Tanford is using his state-supported university salary to pursue litigation against the state that, if successful, could force the state to pay Tanford even more money in the form of an attorney's fee.
