(BEDFORD) - Bedford Urban Enterprise Association Acting President Natasha Johns is smiling today thanks to a grant from a local foundation.
Johns says the Lawrence county Community Foundation gave her a $5,000 grant to go towards the building of a local playground. The Foundation now has $15,600 in funds on hand. The new playground will cost around $60,000.
The money will be used to help build a new playground at the Edgewood Edition on 16th Street next to the Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Intern Jared Bond says another grant would have helped but it was a matching grant and the deadline was just days away. Bond notes that the smallest amount given was $150,000 and the grant deadline was July 1st.
Johns says a fundraiser will be held this Saturday, June 23rd. The fundraiser in the form of a concert will be held at the Bedford Downtown Convention Center. JoAnna Cobb, Deb Doyle, Steel Creek and Brandon Pfeiffer will be some of the performers on hand.
Tickets for the event are $8 before the concert, $10 at the door.
