(WASHINGTON) - The town of Washington is preparing to honor a former resident who lost his life fighting a fire in South Carolina.
A memorial service for Mark Kelsey will be held Tuesday. Thousands of mourners from Indiana and other states are expected to attend.
Organizer Paul Goss says the community wanted to honor a hometown hero.
Kelsey was one of nine Charleston firefighters killed last week in the deadliest single disaster for U.S. firefighters since the 9/11 terror attacks.
