(BEDFORD) - Bedford city employees will be receiving health coverage from a different insurance carrier at a cheaper rate.
In a special Bedford Board of Works meeting on Wednesday afternoon, town officials voted to change insurance coverage to the Southern Indiana Health Organization. The new insurance will include vision coverage.
Mayor Joe Klumpp says the new insurance will save the city about 2/3 the cost Anthem Insurance is now costing. Klumpp says the savings will amount to about $400,000 annually.
The new coverage will benefit about 260 employees who work for the city of Bedford.
