(BEDFORD) - General Motors Powertrain in Bedford is proposing to build a walking trail in a 40 acres tract just north of the GM Powertrain plant.
Remediation Team Program Manager Ed Peterson, along with Cheryl Hyatt and Katie Camm, gave a 20 minute PowerPoint presentation at last night's Bedford City Council meeting showing how they would build a trail area that would include a small pond and braided creeks.
The new wetlands would attract wildlife and plants that people enjoy as they walked the miles of trails. A parking lot and a kiosk would also be constructed.
The only stipulation would be that a local group or groups would be responsible with the maintenance and future ownership of the trail.
Jennifer Anderson with the Lawrence County Tourism Department was at the meeting and expressed interest in the project. She, along with Peterson, are planning to get together at a future date and discuss more details of the walking trail.
