(BEDFORD) - Former Lawrence County Sheriff Kent Hawkins, Deputy John Potter and Jail Matron Shauna Hawkins have all had their first days in court filing their pleas in the Lawrence County Superior Court.
Hawkins and Potter are accused of forgery by allegedly signing federal documents with other officers' signatures in order to purchase guns. Shauna Hawkins is accused of sexual misconduct within the Lawrence County Jail.
Next in line will be their pre-trial conferences in Superior Court Two. John Potter's conference will be on August 6th; Shauna Hawkins, August 20th. Kent Hawkins' pre-trial will be August 27th. At those times, the full-trial dates and locations will be set.
A special prosecutor has been chosen by Lawrence County Prosecutor Michelle Woodward. Former Greene County Prosecutor Dave Powell will examine the evidence and determine whether more individuals will be charged in the cases.
