(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell Community Schools Board of Trustees is examining a parcel of land in Huron that they were given over 40 years.
The school corporation was given a gift of about 155 acres in Huron from Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mundy back in 1960. According to the deed, the land would have been used to build a new school if a fire destroyed any of the schools in Mitchell.
Within those acres, Joseph King, of Huron, owns about 5 acres. King wants to give the acreage to the school.
School Board attorney Chris Burton says the only thing done on the other 155 acres has been some clear cutting. About 3 acres of that land has been used.
The school board will examine the area and decide whether to sell the land or to take up King's proposal and purchase the extra land. A decision will be made at the August meeting.
