(PAOLI) - What is the difference between a town and a city?
According to the definition, an incorporated city is a government entity, with powers delegated by the state and county. A city is created and approved by the voters. It can provide local government services to its citizens.
Officials with the Paoli Town Council want the change of the town's designation. They say the change would stimulate economic growth for the area.
Paoli council member Dr. Alva Sibbitt, Jr., asks whether the local people want to continue operating like they have for years, or do they want to change.
Forrest Brown with the town council began a petition several months ago and plans to reinstate the signing. Ten-percent, or about 400 names of Paoli's registered voters, are needed to put the question on a ballot.
Brown says if anything is ever going to happen, a mayor needs to be in charge.
