(SHOALS) - A Salem man has died following a drowning at Hindostan Falls in Martin County.
According to Indiana Conservation Officers, 45-year-old William K. Gray lost his footing and was swept into the strong current of the White River. His body was found nearby a couple of hours later.
Divers were not able to search the area because of the strong current. Gray was with his son, Jason Gray, of Orleans, below the Hindostan Falls. The two were going toward a funneling area, according to the release. Jason was leading the way.
As they approached the narrow flow, William got in front. He suddenly lost his footing and went under the surface into the strong current.
The Indiana State Police, Martin County Sheriff's Department, Martin County Civil Defense, Martin County EMS, Shoals Fire Department, Loogootee Fire Department, and Air Evac medical helicopter assisted the conservation officers.
