Two serious fires have kept the Bedford Fire Department busy since late this morning.
During the late morning, Bedford fire crews were called to the scene of a full working fire on the 3100 block of Washington.
The residence's entire upper floor was fully involved as well as the downstairs dining room. The kitchen also suffered minor damage.
As crews were finishing up that fire, shortly before 1:00PM, a second call for another fire came in.
The Free Methodist Church at the corner of 7th and R Streets had a fire start with their air conditioning units. Due to fire crews already being deployed, all Bedford fire personnel were called to action at the church.
Two ladder trucks, 2 engines and 2 ambulances as well as assorted police vehicles arrived on scene. The church suffered significant smoke and heat damage. The entire center of the plank ceiling that runs through the sanctuary has been blackened, but Bedford fire Chief Scott Gillespie told us the church is still structurally sound at this point.
Gillespie expects crews to be on scene until at least 5:00 this evening.
