(BEDFORD) - Phyllis Gassaway, head of the IUE-CWA Local 907 has told WBIW News about the details of the closure agreement voted on by union members Yesterday.
Gassaway said the agreement was ratified by Bedford union members by 93%.
Gassaway did have some good news, in that the closure of the Bedford Visteon plant will be delayed until July 31st, backing it up around 3 months from what was previously stated.
Visteon workers being laid off will receive what's called a retention bonus, which will equate to 1 weeks worth of pay for every year of service at the plant. Hourly workers will also receive 3 months worth of health coverage at usual rates.
Those Visteon workers who have already been laid off, but cast a ballot yesterday anyway, were given a signing bonus totaling $3,000.
Gassaway said there are currently more than 600 hourly workers at the Visteon plant in Bedford, none of which, as far as she knows, has been offered the opportunity to transfer to a different Visteon plant.
