(BEDFORD) - Bedford Republican State Senator Brent Steele has come out in favor of the property tax plan proposed by Hoosier Governor Mitch Daniels.
Daniels proposed permanently removing school operation funding and the cost of protecting abused and neglected children from local coffers, making them state expenditures, reportedly reducing property taxes on Hoosiers by about 1/3.
In order to pay for the new state expenditures, Daniels also proposed a 1% increase in sales tax, and by reallocating a small amount of the state's budget surplus.
Senator Steele said the governor should be commended for, "taking the bull by the horns" on the property tax matter.
