(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington has been passed over as a final site for a presidential debate for the 2008 election cycle.
Indiana University and Bloomington officials submitted a proposal to the Commission on Presidential Debates, and Commission officials toured the area and approved Bloomington as a potential debate host site.
Word came down yesterday, however, that Bloomington and IU are out of the running for hosting a debate, and universities in Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri and New York are in.
Janet Brown, executive director of the Commission on Presidential Debates says it's not something that was wrong about Bloomington's or Indiana's proposal, it's just that they have more qualified sites than they do debates.
