(MILLPORT) - Indiana conservation officers are trying to find out how a man shot himself in the foot while deer hunting with a muzzle-loading rifle.
Around 8:30 yesterday morning, Washington County sheriff's and emergency medical techs came to Millport, Indiana to help a hunter who had driven himself there from his Jackson County hunting ground with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
45-year-old David Wheeler of Vallonia, Indiana told officials that, as he was crawling on the ground toward a deer, his .50-caliber black powder rifle accidentally went off striking him in the foot.
After paramedics had a look at him, Wheeler was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital in stable condition.
