McIntyre's Death Confirmed As Suicide

Last updated on Thursday, November 1, 2007

(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Coroner has made an official cause of death determination for Judge Richard McIntyre, Sr., confirming rumors of suicide.

Shortly after 9:30 this morning, Lawrence County Coroner John Sherrill personally delivered the results of the autopsy conducted at the Dunn Memorial Hospital morgue.

The report reads, "Judge Richard McIntyre's cause of death is carbon monoxide poisoning. The manner of death is most consistent with self-induced."

Sherrill's report says Judge McIntyre's wife, Meredith McIntyre, discovered her husband unresponsive in the drivers seat of their brand new GMC Yukon. She called police, and when they and Coroner Sherrill arrived, they confirmed McIntyre's death.

McIntyre's body was taken directly to the Dunn Memorial Hospital morgue, where forensic pathologist Dr. J. M. Jacobi conducted the autopsy, including pathological, toxicological and radiological studies.

McIntyre's death has generated a significant emotional response among members of this community. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so tomorrow from 10:00am until 3:00pm at the Lawrence County Courthouse rotunda, and again from 5:00 until 8:00pm at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at Schafer Auditorium Saturday at 10:00am.
