(BLOOMINGTON) - Whereas the Democrats took a shellacking in Lawrence County, Monroe County is a different story as Republicans are hanging on by a thread.
Republican David Sabbaugh conceded the mayor's race in Bloomington shortly after 8:00pm to Democratic incumbent Mark Kruzan, leaving Republican City Councilman Brad Wisler, who won his race, the only Republican in public office in the college town.
Democrat Isabel Piedmont won District 5 in Bloomington, Democrat Stephen Volan won District 6, and Democrats Tim Mayer, Andy Ruff and Susan Sandburg took all 3 at-large positions.
All other races in Bloomington were uncontested.
In Ellettsville, Republicans faired better, winning all 3 contested Council seats. The Clerk-Treasurer seat was uncontested.
In Stinesville, Democrats did well again winning 2 out of 3 Council seats, the third being won by Independent Jeff LaShure.
