(SHOALS) - Indiana State Police say a weekend fire that caused extensive damage to the Martin County prosecutor’s office has been ruled an arson.
26-year-old Cary Lee Clifton of Shoals was arrested Sunday.
Prosecutor Mike Steiner said the office will be closed for the next few days while he finds a new location. The fire was discovered Saturday by two juveniles who spotted smoke billowing from the prosecutor's office as they were walking nearby in the city.
When they reached the building, the juveniles noticed that a side door window had been shattered and then saw a man inside the building. The pair ran across the street to notify the town marshal, but when he arrived he found the building on fire but no sign of the man the juveniles had seen inside the building.
The Shoals Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire.
