(PEKIN) - State troopers put 2 in jail after chasing them across a couple state highways.
Shortly before 4:30pm last night, troopers attempted to stop a ford Escort for a seat belt violation, and even through the cruiser had its lights and sirens on, the vehicle didn't stop.
After traveling across State Roads 60 and 335 heading towards Pekin, the driver eventually stopped, and allegedly jumped out of the car running.
The trooper tried to get information from the passengers who reportedly did not cooperate. Eventually, other troopers arrived and established a perimeter, and located the driver, identified as 19-year-old Levaughn Canaday of Pekin, in a nearby residence.
Canaday faces a felony charge of resisting law enforcement in a vehicle and misdemeanor charges of operating while intoxicated on a controlled substance and possession of marijuana under 30 grams.
One passenger, 27-year-old Amanda Campbell, was charged with obstruction of justice and possession of marijuana.
Troopers also allegedly found other controlled substances at the scene, and other charges are pending.
