(BEDFORD) - Ice storms are crushing areas of the Midwest, from Eastern Texas, all the way out to New England.
The rain system currently traveling through the WBIW listening area is tailed by ice storms that are as close as Southern Illinois.
10 people have been killed in Okalahoma in accidents resulting from ice, and more than 300,000 people between Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas and Illinois are without power.
However, meteorologist Chad Swain of the National Weather Service in Indianapolis has told WBIW News that the Southern Indiana area is safe.
Temperatures are expected to remain above freezing through the duration of the storm.
The winter weather is due to stay north of Indy, not getting much farther south than Marion and Logansport.
