(BEDFORD) - Indiana National Guard soldiers from companies based in Connersville, Winchester and Muncie have been called up to deploy to Iraq.
National Guard officials say Hoosier guardsmen from areas such as Richmond, Centerville, Pershing, Fort Wayne and Bedford are all to report to Camp Atterbury near Columbus on Monday for training.
After that, they will be given leave for Christmas and then will report to Fort Stewart in Georgia. They will be given additional training and preparation and then ship off to the Operation Iraqi Freedom theater in spring of 2008.
Captain John Stamm of the Indiana National Guard said guardsmen do not have specific location orders yet, and Captain Lisa Kopczynski said the deployment is scheduled for 12 months.
