(BEDFORD) - Weather Channel meteorologists say more than an inch of precipitation fell over the WBIW listening area over the weekend, causing slippery conditions on many roads and scattering area sports action.
All high school sporting events were called off for North Lawrence schools, as well as Mitchell's basketball game out in Brownstown.
The City Of Bedford alone saw 6 minor accidents over the weekend, mostly on Saturday. On Sunday, 2 vehicles slid on ice into utility poles near the intersection of SR-158 and Avoca Eureka Road within 5 minutes of each other.
No one was injured, though one casualty was claimed in a Duke Energy pole which snapped about 4 feet off the ground.
The hilly nature of the roads around the Hoosier Hills makes even the slightest bit of ice even more dangerous.
Police officials from all over the area urge drivers to slow down, and use common-sense winter driving tips such as not using cruise control over icy roads, increase following distances and keep your lights on, even during daylight.
However, the forecast for the rest of the week looks mostly clear until the weekend, where we may be due for some more rain.
