(UNDATED) - October 2007 was an incredibly busy month for area news reporters.
Bloomington Doctor Accused Of Reusing Needles
The Bloomington Surgery Center started offering free hepatitis and HIV screenings to patients of Doctor Kamal Tiwari, an anestesiologist who was found by the Indiana Department of Health to have reused needles.
The testing offer was made to more than 1,800 patients, and this wouldn't be the last time Doctor Tiwari would have a run-in with the news in 2007.
Bedford Visteon Closure Plans Announced
Just a day after that, the IUE-CWA union would announce a tentative deal for the closure of the Bedford Visteon plant.
The deal would go on that night to be approved by 93-percent of the plant's workers, mostly since it offered decent lay-off incentives and would delay the plant's mothballing until the end of July 2008.
Lehigh Announces Expansion
Lehigh Cement in Mitchell would announce a major expansion.
The 400-million-dollar project which will break ground in 2008 and should be completed in 2012.
Bloomington Law Student Causes Scare
On Tuesday, October 16th, Bloomington police would cordon off an area around Arch Haven Apartments due to a report of a man shooting an assault rifle off his balcony.
Police would reveal 27-year-old Jesse Sneed, an IU law student, as shooting his assault rifles at a couple of his textbooks, and was caught trying to leave the scene.
Political Forums Broadcast By 1340 AM WBIW
WBIW would broadcast the Lion's Club forum on October 24th, featuring only Democrat Al Craig and Independent Shawna Girgis.
Republican Jean Williams would refuse to participate, however would change her tune the following week and host her own forum.
Bedford Judge Commits Suicide
Finally, Lawrence County Judge Richard McIntyre Sr. was found dead in his home on Halloween day.
Lawrence County Coroner John Sherrill would go on to confirm McIntyre's death was a suicide. It would subsequently be revealed McIntyre was under investigation for financial irregularities.
