(LINTON) - Greene County Democratic Party Chairman Jeff Lehman has turned himself in to authorities this morning after a warrant was issued for his arrest yesterday afternoon.
Lehman, who has been head of the party in Greene County for about a dozen years, was wanted for a string of battery-related charges stemming from a mid-November incident in Linton.
According to an affidavit at the Greene County Sheriff's office, a woman called 911 and the dispatcher heard screaming and then the phone line go dead.
The dispatcher called back and the woman told the dispatcher Lehman had beat her, but that nothing could be done about it because of who he was and that, according to the caller, Linton police officers let him get away with it.
Lehman is being held on $6,500 bond at the Greene County jail, though is expected to make bail later this evening.
Lehman is facing charges of strangulation, battery with injury, disorderly conduct and interfering with the reporting of a crime.
Calls to both the Greene County and Indiana State Democratic Parties regarding what this means for the Greene County Deomcratic Party and Lehman in particular have gone unreturned as of press time.
