(UNDATED) - The extreme cold weather means tough times for anyone working outside, including postal workers.
Indiana Post Office Spokeswoman Kim Yates says mail carriers have become used to extreme temperatures, but the initial blast of cold still takes some adjustment.
The mail carriers are advised to wear layers to keep up their body temperature and they will need to be aware of how their skin feels. Yates adds the cold temperatures will likely mean carriers will be walking a little faster today, otherwise its business as usual.
Other postal workers are also affected by the cold. Yates says dock workers are out in the weather and will also need to cover up and keep warm.
Yates says there isn't much the public can do to help their mail carrier, except maybe a hot cup of tea or coffee.
