(SCOTT COUNTY) - Two wrecks claimed 2 lives in Scott County yesterday.
Thursday morning, state police say 22-year-old Joseph Kilburn of Austin, Indiana was southbound on Interstate 65 when, for reasons still unknown, he crossed the median into the northbound lanes and struck the rear portion of a northbound Volvo tractor trailer driven by 35-year-old Jacky Mah of Palatine, Illinois.
Kilburn struck the truck so hard it knocked the trailer clear off the tractor. Kilburn was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly after that wreck was cleaned up and traffic started moving slowly again, a south bound semi didn't notice the congestion in front of him, and at the last moment tried to avoid another tractor trailer from Alabama in the right hand lane.
He glanced off that and into another semi from Wisconsin from the emergency lane. Neither of those 2 truck drivers were injured, however the man driving the first truck was pronounced dead on the scene.
State troopers are withholding his identity pending family notification.
11:08AM Story Update:
Late this morning, state troopers identified the deceased truck driver as 44-year-old Jeffrey McKee of Indianapolis.
