(BEDFORD) - Freezing rain and snow have caused significant problems across Lawrence County and surrounding areas.
Bedford Police and Lawrence County Sheriff's officers combined responded to around 20 small accidents that seemed to be related to the slippery conditions, and there were yet a couple more in Mitchell.
In Oolitic, sheriff's reports indicate one person suffered a laceration to the head after slipping on ice in a parking lot.
However, Bedford Street Department head John Dalton has told WBIW News that the ability to clear the mess that we have gotten from mother nature is about as good as it can get. Dalton said street crews in Bedford have covered a number of areas 2 and 3 times with salt and sand.
Dan Lucas, Superintendent for the Lawrence County Highway Department has said everything is going as normal for county roads. Lucas said all the main roads should be clear right now and they are currently working on your smaller and side roads.
Officials from the Mitchell Street Department were unable to be reached by press time; however, both Lucas and Dalton said their roads should be clear and drivable by at least tomorrow morning if not sometime tonight.
