(UNDATED) - Last night’s storms did a number on Lawrence County. However, most of the damage stayed south of the City of Bedford, and wound up mostly in and around Mitchell.
Mitchell police told WBIW News this morning no tornadoes were sighted in Mitchell last night, however, there were several homes around Grissom Avenue and 2nd Street that suffered significant damage from straight-line winds.
A number of homes along Grissom reported windows being blown out and severe roof damage. One Mitchell denizen reported her 2nd Street modular home had been blown off its foundation and was suffering major water leakage.
Mitchell police also say they had one person call in with a garage that was practically destroyed by winds, and that the house it was connected to may have suffered major structural damage.
Fox News affiliates report last night's storms are being blamed for the deaths of about 47 people in Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky. MSNBC reports some polls in last night's primary election in Tennessee had to be closed early due to the storms.
However, with precipitation forecasted to continue for a while yet, the National Weather Service has extended their flood warning along the East Fork of the White River until a little after 4:00 tomorrow morning.
