(BEDFORD) - For those looking for where that funny smell outside is coming from, you’re not alone.
Area law enforcement and emergency agencies have been getting reports of a foul smell outdoors everywhere from Orange County all the way up to Martinsville.
Valerie Luchauer at Lawrence County Emergency Management has been in contact with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and tells WBIW News it is currently being investigated as a propane gas leak.
Luchauer says people don't need to worry about any adverse health affects as of yet. They have not received any complaints of people becoming ill because of the odor.
Differing reports received from Bedford Police, Lawrence County Emergency Management and State Police Bloomington are estimating the smell to be originating anywhere from French Lick to possibly somewhere near Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
IDEM's Barry Sneed, however, seemed skeptical of the Kentucky reports and tells WBIW News the very first complaints came from Lawrence County. Sneed did say, though, IDEM is in contact with Kentucky officials just in case.
Drivers and area residents may see squad cars around the area with emergency management decals on the side, and there's no need to be alarmed. They are just looking for the origin.
However, if anything changes, make sure you keep tuned to WBIW and keep watching WBIW.com since we will pass along any confirmed information as soon as it becomes available.
