(LOOGOOTEE) - Five people are injured in Loogootee after an accident on US-231 involving a tractor.
State Police Jasper say 77-year-old Clifford Lannan of Loogootee was driving his John Deere tractor down the highway along with his passenger, 65-year-old James Lannan, when they were approached from behind by a pickup driven by 22-year-old Jonathan Lackey of Lawrenceville.
Lackey tried to pass the tractor near Southridge Road at the same time the tractor was trying to turn onto Southridge, and the 2 vehicles collided.
Clifford and James Lannan were both thrown from the tractor, and James was pinned underneath the machine.
Lackey and his passengers, 35-year-old Richard Hill of Washington and 45-year-old Charles Condiff of Fort Branch all struck their heads on the windshield of the truck since they weren't wearing seatbelts.
All five people suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospitals and US-231 was closed for around two and a half hours.
Master Trooper Ken Miller said seatbelts would have reduced injuries.
