(BEDFORD) - Indiana has set up a new community initiative called the Hometown Competitiveness Initiative, or the HTC, and has selected Lawrence County to be one of 9 pilot communities to participate in the program.
The HTC is primarily aimed at sustaining rural communities, and is being backed by several organizations including Ball State and Purdue Universities and the United States Department of Agriculture.
The idea is to keep people from moving away from smaller communities by creating and fostering opportunities in the areas.
The first assessment meeting, which is open to the public, will be held Wednesday the 19th at the Bedford Chamber of Commerce at 9:30.
