(BEDFORD) - Bedford’s abuzz about Oprah’s Big Give.
For the one or two of you that may not already know, Nate Berkus, one of the judges from the Oprah's Big Give reality show on the ABC Network, brought a camera crew to Bedford Monday and awarded Bedford's Shelley Fleetwood with a $10,000 check to help her raise money for the Harrell family, friends of the Fleetwoods, who lost their Leesville home last month.
Fleetwood has until Friday to make that money grow, and she's looking for everyone's help in doing it.
And it seems to be working.
Fleetwood told WBIW News this morning the response has been unbelievable, and that there's been lots of donors and offers of dollar matching. Not only is this a new ordeal for Shelley Fleetwood and the Harrell family, it's also a learning experience for the Oprah crew with her.
Fleetwood said this is the first time they have done something like this as well.
Fleetwood and her team of around 9 people have lined up a number of events, and also a donation collection center.
You can take donations to the Company Concourse to Valerie Arthur, or you can make donations at the Chase Bank, where they have an account set up in the name of Jeff and Melissa Harrell.
Beyond that, you can check out their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/oprahbedfordgive, or tune in to your favorite Bedford radio station tomorrow morning where you may just hear them talking about their escapades.
And go to the Community Calendar page on WBIW.com to see some events they're hosting, to be updated soon.
